Silicones

Algi-X and Vinamold, an alternative to plaster and silicone

Another interesting material for moulding finer details is Algi-x. Algi-x is an alginate, you mix the powder with water for a fast result. The time from start to ready mould is approximately only 3 minutes!

The difference between an alginate and silicone is that the alginate is useful when making a one time mould while the silicone moulds can be used over and over again. The Algi-x mould must be used within 24 hours to avoid deformation. Alginate is a harmless material, frequently used by hospital and dental labs where precision and detail are vital.

Vinamold is a recyclable and flexible material and is suitable for casting with polyester plaster, concrete, plaster or a variation of waxes.

Moulds made by vinamold can be stored for many years without any deformation. Vinamold is suitable for both finer details and rough surfaces and as well as glossy and polished finishes.
